About us
We are continuously growing with each task and carry on a tradition, many years in the making.
Tradition and history
In 1889, the Max Aab family-owned company was founded and thus began the success story that continues today.
In the founding years, the company was producing jewellery – as was typical for the gold city – but soon began diverting and specialising in high-quality wood products.
Production of elegantly simple wooden picture frames began about 80 years later in Huchenfeld, near Pforzheim, where the frames are still manufactured today. The strictest of standards were developed by founder Max Aab to be applied during the manufacturing process, and they represent the highest of quality standards to this day.
Management of the business was handed over to the Wörtz family and they have been running it since 2009. The continuation of this successful tradition has been both an obligation and an incentive during this time.
The Wörtz family is able to benefit from the long years of experience of processing wood products in their now third generation joinery business. The long-standing customer relationships with galleries, museums, object fitters, framers, schools, photographers, artists, as well as private customers are the focus of attention for the Wörtz family, as well as the continued and well-known quality of the products.
Picture frames - made in Germany
A picture frame may appear simple, but it is a complex and structurally demanding form.
Aab picture frames are manufactured with state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment, resulting in a fast and smooth production process. The in-house tooling manufacture not only supports the independence of the family business, but it also prevents production outages.
Any resulting wood scraps are turned into wood bricks for an eco-friendly production and provide an energy source for the winter heating system at the same time. Only FSC-certified wood is used in the frame manufacturing to ensure the sustainability of the product.
The moulding pieces are produced in-house, with the bevels and mitre cuts being carried out fully automatically. Gluing of the mitred pieces is executed flawlessly and then fortified with additional clamps in the corners.
Surface finish machining work is continued on the completed frame. Only fine sanding processes are applied to the natural wood frames so as to not disturb the characteristic fine grains of the various wood types. Another advantage of this surface treatment is that the frames remain biologically and environmentally friendly. All varnished and painted Aab frames are made of solid wood. The conclusion of the production cycle consists of a consistent quality control inspection. All picture frames are individually and manually checked and packaged before shipping. This ensures that the company can guarantee excellent quality deliveries at all times.
